- There have been increasing reports of scammers and unlicensed moneylenders masquerading as licensed moneylenders to deceive victims into taking loans. For more information on scam related advice, you may click on the link www.scamalert.sg. If you have received text messages from someone claiming to represent licensed moneylenders and/or were told to make deposits/transfer money into bank accounts before a loan is granted, we advise you to file a police report immediately via one of the following channels:
- Online via SPF Website Link if you have a SingPass account;
- At any Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) (open 24 hours); or
- At any Neighbourhood Police Post (NPP) (open from 12.00pm to 10.00pm).
- We wish to highlight that a licensed moneylender must first meet you in person physically at the approved place of business before granting you a loan.
- A licensed moneylender will also not ask a loan applicant to make any payment before the disbursement of the loan. Licensed moneylenders are also disallowed to solicit for loans through phone calls or text messages.
